Team Liquid and LGD Forever Young compete for a chance to play in the Grand Finals of The International 2017 Dota 2 tournament.
Team Liquid have had multiple great results in the second half of the 2016-2017 competitive season and received a direct invite to The International 2017. They won 4 tournaments over the last 5 months and are ranked as the number one team in the world at the moment. These 4 tournaments were: StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3 (they played the Grand Finals against VG.J, score 3-1), StarLadder i-League Invitational #2 (they defeated TNC Pro Team, score 3-2), EPICENTER 2017 (3-1 against Evil Geniuses), and DreamLeague Season 7 (3-2 against Planet Odd).
The team’s captain is Kuro “Kuroky” Takhasomi, a former Na`Vi member and TI finalist (in 2013). With his leadership and the help of top players such as Amer “Miracle” Al-Barkawi and Maroun “gh” Merhej, the team has a high chance of reaching the Grand Finals of The International 2017.
LGD Forever Young
LFY qualified for The International 2017 by winning the second phase of the Chinese regional qualifier. In the months prior to TI 7 LFY had a number of good results, including a 3rd – 4th place at Epicenter and a 2nd place at the Mars Dota 2 League tournament. They are a top 3 team in China and one of the best performing teams so far at this year’s TI. The Chinese roster finished the group stage with 6 wins and 2 draws, and then proceeded to defeat TNC and Virtus.pro in the upper bracket without losing a single game.
LFY are coached by Wang “Banana” Jiao and led by Leong “ddc” Fat-meng. Under their leadership, they have had an impressive run so far at TI 7. Until their very last match against Newbee (which they lost against all odds, score 1-2), their performances had been exceptional.
LFY have played 11 matches so far at this year’s TI, getting 8 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. On the other hand, their opponents have played 13 matches, getting 9 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss.
With their current rosters, the two teams have played 2 times against each other. Both of these matches took place 2 months ago, at EPICENTER 2017. LFY won the first encounter (score 2-1), while Liquid won the second (score 2-0).
Betting Odds and Predictions
Based on the two team’s direct encounters and their performances during The International 2017, this match will be, at least on paper, one of the closest we’ve seen so far at this tournament. However, due to Team Liquid’s positive momentum (they’re on a 4 win streak in the lower bracket) and LFY’s negative result in their latest match against Newbee, I do believe that the Europeans have a better chance of winning this battle.
Betway puts the odds at 1.70-2.05 in favor of Team Liquid. Betspawn gives similar odds in their favor: 1.65-2.10.
A lot of special bets are available for this match on websites like betway.com and betspawn.com. Among them, it’s well worth a bet that both teams will win at least one game, as it is very unlikely that one of them will crush the other without dropping one. Another bet worth considering is that the first blood will not occur within the first 2 minutes of the games. With the teams being so evenly matched, it’s likely that everyone will play safe and focus on securing farm for their cores.
